Felix Carrillo III took the oath of enlistment in February 2001 at 18 years old. For the first decade of his career, he served as an enlisted Aerospace Ground Equipment technician and instructor at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana — maintaining and teaching the systems that kept aircraft combat-ready. That experience established a foundational truth: when the mission depends on you, preparation isn't optional.
What began as a commitment to service evolved into a 22-year journey spanning technical mastery, commissioned leadership, enterprise program management, and ultimately, entrepreneurship. Every assignment added a new dimension — not just in rank or responsibility, but in the kind of leader Felix was becoming.
From enlisted technician to Major, from Barksdale to Wright-Patterson — a career defined by growth, mission, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
While serving full-time in the Air Force, Felix pursued his education with the same discipline he brought to the flight line. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Louisiana State University and was commissioned as a Distinguished Graduate through Air Force ROTC Detachment 310 in May 2013 — a recognition reserved for the top performers in the program.
Becoming an officer opened an entirely new chapter in his career. The transition from enlisted technician to commissioned officer wasn't just a change in uniform — it was a fundamental shift in scope. Where Felix once mastered systems with his hands, he would now lead people, manage enterprise programs, and operate at levels of strategic complexity few officers ever reach.

From enterprise IT acquisition to fighter avionics to tanker training systems — Felix's commissioned career reads like a masterclass in operational breadth and programmatic depth.
Business Enterprise Systems Directorate, Wright-Patterson AFB — supporting enterprise-level IT and acquisition programs at scale.
F-15 System Program Office — managing technical programs within one of the Air Force's most critical and storied fighter platforms.
6th Air Refueling Wing, MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL — serving as Accessories Flight Commander, AMU Officer in Charge, and Maintenance Operations Officer through the ALEET program.
Simulators Division, Wright-Patterson AFB — managing the development of next-generation tanker training systems for the U.S. Air Force's newest aerial refueling aircraft.

Felix's final active-duty assignment placed him at the center of Air Force Materiel Command's most consequential personnel decisions. As Deputy Chief of the Senior Leader Management Office, he served as a trusted advisor to the Command's top three leaders — guiding the career management of over 400 colonels, 26 general officers, and 106 civilian senior executives across the largest senior leader management office in the Air Force.
He retired as a Major in February 2024 after 22 years of distinguished service, recognized with a Meritorious Service Medal for his contributions to senior leader management. He was also named an Air Mobility Command / Airlift Tanker Association Young Leader, a multiple-time Company Grade Officer of the Quarter and Year, and earned his Level II Program Management certification through the Air Force Institute of Technology.
A career is more than a résumé — it's a collection of defining moments. Below are images from Felix's journey: commissioning, the flight line, retirement, and the relationships forged along the way.

Felix lives in Prospect, Kentucky with his wife Dr. Hilda Carrillo, who holds a PhD in Accounting, and their son Felix IV, who is currently in college competing as a collegiate football player. Family is the foundation behind everything he builds.
When he's not developing the future of data infrastructure at Lonix Inc., Felix is studying emerging technology trends, mentoring young professionals navigating the military-to-civilian transition, and finding the next opportunity to turn preparation into action.
The values that defined his service — discipline, integrity, and a commitment to the mission — don't retire. They simply find new expression.
